Coaching in Sport

The majority of our top sporting people have performance or sports coaches alongside their technical coach or trainer. The role of the performance coach is to deal with the mind game which often limits the success of the individual.

When playing sport, we can become technically very capable. However, the key to achieving success is in the believing. How many golfers take that swing and resign themselves to believing they will never get a hole in one. Believe it and it will start happening!

Sounds easy! It does take a bit of time and effort to create a winning mind set, it is possible and the results are astounding.

We have recently been working with a top level rower. He firmly thought he could never beat his colleagues, he felt they were ranked higher than him and they deserved to win more than he did! Or so he thought! After 1 coaching session, this belief was blasted clean out of the water and next time out, he got a personal best and beat some of those training colleagues! This is an excellent example of how coaching can clear those mind blocks and lead on to success.

Pippa Funnel (Team GB Event Rider) acknowledges that her success was achieved through the use of a performance coach. Pippa admits that she was ‘stuck’ in her achievement levels. However, once she took on a non-technical coach, her winning began. When she began to believe she could do it, her performance changed and next time out she got that ever elusive first place.
